The Lensbaby Twist 60 | A razor sharp lens with a twist!

I have always tried to further my skills as a photographer, I’m consistently looking for something new to make things more exciting and to help me produce images unlike anyone else. I recently read an article about “free lensing” and so I gave it a shot with my camera however, the thing is.. you have to remove your lens from the camera which somewhat allows dirt and debris to enter the camera’s body and for the images, I wasn’t willing to risk potentially harming my camera. So I began searching for a lens that could give me interesting effects that would pair well with my shooting style.

I stumbled upon Lensbaby! This is a brand I had heard about through photography groups on Facebook and I decided to look further into their products. I loved the idea behind each of their lenses and thought they could really amp up a creative person’s photography style. I initially went to the website looking at the Spark, this is still a product that is on my wishlist and after trying the Twist 60, it’s something I know I’ll definitely purchase.

Lensbaby products are like no other. When you receive yours, you’ll notice the construction is sturdy and the overall look is different. With the Twist 60 lens, you’ll see that the lens is actually in metal casing which is a nice change from the traditional plastic or partially metal lenses that we are used to. in addition to my lens, I received some stickers to promote the Lensbaby brand, a Bag and some instructions on how to use the lens.

I put the lens on my camera and at first I was a bit confused, it is definitely a learning curve to go from automatic lenses to full manual lens types. I love the fact that this lens gives you a twisted Bokeh effect, I think it is truly unique and this effect can only be given to you using this particular lens. With my new lens, I started photographing my children in various areas of our home. I realized that in order to get that perfectly swirled bokeh, you’ll need to find settings that aren’t too busy but do have texture behind your subject.

What I love about Lensbaby,

I love that this (and all of their other lenses) will dramatically help you to see in a new way, you’ll be able to create beautiful works of art with just the change of a lens. Each image will be dramatically different from the last and your work will stand out on it’s own. The philosophy behind Lensbaby products is to help you to See in a New Way. I definitely feel this to be true. If you’re like me, you’ll add the lens to your camera body and see what you come up with instead of searching for inspiration online and I think that is who the target audience is for camera products like these.
Lensbaby products give me the freedom to express myself through imagery. I feel as though my images look far different from what I’m used to seeing online and in print and that makes me feel good. I love this new addition to my camera bag and I think you will too. If you’d like to See in a New Way, visit the Lensbaby website and take a look, there’s something there for everyone.

Here is one of my first images with the Twist 60, I meant to focus on her lashes but I missed and was way off but still, I think this image is beautiful and is one that I would send to a client of mine.

The next two images are the same image, the bottom one is zoomed in to show the sharp lashes again, this is a manual focus lens and obtaining sharp detail like this is really easy which I love.

I feel as though Lensbaby products will help to change and shape the photography world forever. These are products that give us the ability to really create and even if they’re inadvertent masterpieces, the way that Lensbaby changes the way you see, you’ll use this and apply it in everyday life and even when you’re being creative in other ways.

About the author…

Hi! Thank you for reading my blog posts, I’m a mother of five with twin boys set to arrive very soon! My days as a photographer began in Southern California where my friends and I had walls full of photos printed from our adventures. I currently shoot with a Canon 5D Mark IV but for the last 5 years I have used a Canon 70D Crop Sensor DSLR because it’s the person who makes a good photographer, not the equipment. I strive to document life as it is, to #sustainchildhood is my ultimate goal for you and for me. If you’ve found my article interesting or helpful, please consider sharing this page and using the hashtag #sustainchildhood so that I can see your work!
